Dear Noah,

Noah James,

My precious big boy..you turned SEVEN on Monday!! The "Big Seven" as your Daddy calls it.  I can't even believe it. This has felt like the fastest year so far..it really does seem like you turned 6 just yesterday. And now your seven..tomorrow you will be ten..a week from now 16. That's just how time goes. I heard the saying recently "The days are long, but the years are short". I'm learning just how true that statement is. Oh, my sweet boy..sometimes I just want time to stand still for a little while.
The changes in you over this past year have been astounding. You have matured and changed so much emotionally it's amazing. You don't worry about going to school anymore and do not give us any problems about it. You actually enjoy it! You come home and are such a helper for me. You play wonderfully with your little brothers and do your homework with hardly a complaint. You listen, are respectful, and you have learned how to calm down quickly when you are upset. You're so funny and imaginative and just plain fun to be around. Even though you're getting bigger and more mature, you are still my little boy who still wants me to snuggle up close to him at bedtime and will let me sing to you and kiss your cheeks :). I love to hold you close and smell your hair..it's a mixture of outside, sweetness, and Noah James. One day you won't want me to do those things anymore.
You have done wonderfully in school this year. You love to read and can read almost anything. Right now your favorite things to read are your Highlights magazines, Big Nate and Friends, Captain Underpants,  your Mario game guides, and the funnies from the Sunday paper  :). You love Mario and playing the Wii with Nathanael and Daddy. You also like to set up your Mario figures and act out games with them..it's really cute to watch. You like to write stories and illustrate them. You are so very creative. Your Dad thinks you may be an author when you grow up..he may be right.
You enjoy playing outside and going on nature walks. You love discovering new things. I was the same way at your age. I loved being outside too..just like you. You said you may want to play soccer, so we may try that in the fall. You love to run and are really fast! You can be very active at times, but then other times you will be still and read or draw for an hour.
You are growing every day! You are very tall and slim and have the longest legs. I love your cowlicky hair (just like your daddy) and your big blue eyes. You have the biggest smile and when you're really happy and laughing hard your eyes almost disappear.
You love your brothers so much. Nathanael is your very best friend. To see you two playing together is a gift. I am so thankful that I have three little boys who get along so well! You are a big helper with Nicholas and are very gentle with him. Sometimes you will just go up to him and hug him and "snuffle" his face. It's the sweetest thing. When we go places, you watch out for Nicholas and make sure he's safe. It's so precious.
You say the funniest and sweetest things sometimes. The other day in the van I was taking you and your brothers out to get some dinner (Daddy had class). I asked you if you wanted Wendy's and you said "The girl's freckles are distracting" (The Wendy's girl). haha..who say's that?? You also were missing Daddy because he had class that night and you said "I just love Daddy too much". So sweet. You love your Mama, but you are a Daddy's boy through and through. You two just have such a special bond..it's so sweet to watch.

You had a great birthday party! You love having family parties at home, and this year was no exception. After Nathanael's T-ball game on Saturday, we came back home and Grandmama, Granddaddy, Uncle Frank and Aunt Allyson came over. You wanted pizza, so we had a pizza party! I had gotten you a BIG seven birthday balloon and a "Happy Birthday" banner. And you wanted a cookies and cream ice cream cake this year :) We had a great lunch and then you opened presents. You got a book, two new games for the Wii, mario figures, mario chess and checkers, a gift card and money :) And, Nate picked out a "squishy guy" for you and Nicholas gave you a wooden snake. You loved everything and told everyone thank you. You spent the afternoon playing with your new games and toys and then we played outside. I also played a slideshow on TV that I made for you with pictures from when you were a baby to now. You sat and watched the whole thing and really liked it :) It was a fun fun day! We all enjoyed making you feel special on your birthday. On your actual birthday (Monday), it was a beautiful day. Dad grilled out burgers (one of your favorites) and I made fries and baked beans. We had birthday cake ice cream for dessert and you got to play your new Wii game (that was a treat for you because we don't do the Wii on school nights). You also got some cards and an extra special card from Grammy and PaPa with a gift card to spend :) That night, after you went to bed your Dad and I watched the video of your birth. I thought about how nervous we were to be new parents. How tiny and perfect you were. There is a special part in the video where your Daddy kisses your cheek and then you smile. Always a Daddy's boy :) We treasure that video and wouldn't take anything for it!

Here are some pictures from your party:
